Although often labeled as a “rebel billionaire,” Sir Richard Branson’s business acumen is undeniable. Branson has successfully launched businesses in the music, mobile phone, and airline industries under the Virgin brand name. This week’s announcement regarding Virgin Hotels comes as no surprise to many investors.
The first Virgin Hotels will open no earlier than 6 months to one year from now. They will likely be located in “getaway cities,” such as New York and Los Angeles, and will target the “high income, well-educated, metropolitan ‘creative class.’” Virgin continues to use its classic tongue-in-cheek tone with the “Fancy getting into bed with Virgin?” headline on the hotel’s homepage.
