The late Tupac Shakur said “California knows how to party.” That might be true, but from the looks of the most recent installation of Gentleman Jack’s Arts, Beats + Lyrics (AB+L), the world’s first traveling urban art exhibition, there’s something to be said for how Atlantans celebrate art, music and life.
The live art and music exhibition tour returned to its roots in Atlanta on a sweltering night at The Compound, drawing a crowd of over 3000, with live music from Codi Chestnut, Rebirth Brass Band, Cloudeaters, and a surprise guest performance from Atlanta’s own Pastor Troy. On display was visual art and photography from a diverse group of up-and-coming as well as established artists, including God City, Fabian “Occasional Superstar” Williams, Lord Yatta, Mad Clout and event co-creator Dwayne “Dubelyoo” Wright.

MetroMix Atlanta was also in the building, capturing the artists, performers, atmosphere and Atlantans fashion-forward set. See their photo gallery here.
The event left a lasting impression on all guests and participants and an indelible footprint on the Atlanta art scene. Separating itself from the art world pack, AB+L is a true fusion of traditional art mediums and element of culture influenced by hip hop, including live DJs, break dancing and musical performances. Art Beats + Lyrics is sponsored by Gentleman Jack Rare Tennessee Whisky.
