It is up to YOU whether Paul Hennessey of DePaul University in Chicago or Tyler Hicks of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb will become the next Amtrak travel video director, and win over $3000 worth of prizes, including two (2) Amtrak tickets, a Sony HDV camcorder, aFlip Mino HD, an iPad, and a wireless headset. Voters can go to Amtrak.com, click on the Amtrak TRAINsportation Video Contest banner to view the video entries that made the final round. The online vote is open until April 30, 2010.
The contest was open to all college students in Illinois. Travel-themed video auditions were submitted and then judged by industry experts including Lori Rackl, travel editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, and Stephen Harris, director of nonfiction and alternative programming for A&E Television Network.
Both Hennessey and Hicks recently completed complimentary round-trip travel aboard the Amtrak California Zephyr to capture their footage.
“At Amtrak it’s about enjoying the journey and we have an idea that the same sentiment rings true for today’s college students,” said Tracy Robinson, Director of Marketing for Amtrak. “We want to engage students in a fun and exciting way and introduce them to the best option for travel to more than 500 destinations in 46 states. And, we’re using one of our most photogenic trains, the historic California Zephyr, as a great example of Amtrak service.”
Amtrak created this contest with the help of its marketing communications agency of record, IMAGES USA of Atlanta, Ga.
