Travel Heavyweights Nominated at GLAAD Media Awards In Advertising

Last month, Southwest Airlines, Travelocity and Orbitz were among those nominated and honored at the Inaugural GLAAD Media Awards In Advertising. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event recognized “advertisers that promote fair, accurate and inclusive images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.”

In honoring these corporations and ad agencies, GLAAD recognizes companies who “get it” – companies that understand it’s not enough to be “gay-friendly” on paper, but rather to be inclusive in all aspects of advertising, integrating the GLBTQ experience into campaigns in an accurate, relatable and honest way.

The new GLAAD Advertising Media Program and the advertising arm of the GLAAD Media Awards both build upon the resources of the former Commercial Closet Association, which includes a online library of 4,000 GLBTQ-inclusive advertisements and feature an AdRespect ratings system, based on the types of representations and inclusiveness of the GLBTQ community.
